Annual filmfestival

Go north until the smoke from your pipe freezes and eventually you'll get to snowbound Kiruna. Here, the annual Arctic Light Film Festival celebrates and explores sub-Arctic themes like snow, ice, cold and the northern lights.

It's primarily an audience-based event - organised by volunteers for the general public rather than exclusively for the film industry. But it's also a forum for local filmmakers, whose work it aims to promote, and offers a range of educational programmes.

Workshops and seminars run concurrently with the event, as the organisers seek to consolidate the presence of, and stimulate interest in, the craft of film-making in the region. Despite its small size, the festival is distinguished by taking place in Sweden's northernmost town and its proximity to the famous Ice Hotel in nearby Jukkasjärvi.
