Bagha When?
What? Bagha is a new band, with brand new music.
The mother of the project is Katja Vandl. She had been writing lots of new songs and had a specific idea of how her songs should sound. With that idea in mind she went looking for the right musiciens to achieve this sound. First she wanted to work with Damien Campion, because over the years he had worked for the childrens theatre "Cool Company", another project of Katja's with her colleague Barbara Cool. Katja has seen the development of Damien's talent and taste in music. Furthermore, he was a dream to work with! Therefore it was the obvious choice as the bassplayer. Then she looked for the celloplayer and the violinplayer. She phones her old friend and very talented pianoplayer Peter Vandenberghe, who also teaches at the conservatory of Ghent. He recommended two of his students and after working for a couple of hours with both Eline Duerinck (cello) and Naomi Vercauteren (violin), Katja knew he had been the right person to ask. They both had the right sensibility, talent and comprehension of Katja's music to lift it to another level. The last person was more difficult to find. Katja wanted to marry the sound of classical music with that of jazz and spice it up with electronical sounds and nice beats. After months of searching, Katja has found the drummer, Gerard Dubru, while he was playing electric drums in another band. She popped the question and after hearing Bagha's music, he was keen to participate. The result is pop with all the right influences. And so, finally, BAGHA was born.
